What is an Optometrist?
Optometry is a health-care field concerned exclusively with matters of the eye. Optometrists can diagnose and treat a variety of eye problems, such as astigmatism, myopia (nearsightedness), or hyperopia (farsightedness). They can prescribe glasses and contacts as well as some medicated drops. The optometrists at Albemarle Eye Center have extensive experience diagnosing and treating complicated matters of the eye such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, retinal disease and ocular disorders associated with diabetes and high blood pressure.
