What Is Facial Cosmetic Surgery?
After years of squinting, laughing, frowning, smoking, and stressing, the skin around your eyes and on your forehead can develop deep lines and wrinkles. These lines are normal with aging and are called expression lines.
Expression lines can be challenging to treat, but with the advances in cosmetic surgery technology, Albemarle Eye Center is able to provide treatment and deliver the best possible results to our patients.
The providers at Albemarle Eye center are experienced in performing facial cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic procedures are available at the following locations: Elizabeth City, Washington, Kinston, and Kitty Hawk.
Types of Facial Cosmetic Procedures
Facial cosmetic surgery includes a variety of procedures and treatments. Whether you are struggling with drooping eyelids or want to tighten up wrinkles, our team has you covered.
We offer the full SkinMedica line of skin products to help your skin recover from sun damage and the effects of aging. Albemarle Eye Center also offers medical-grade facial rejuvenation peels that can enhance your appearance by reducing acne scarring, sun-damaged skin, age spots, and fine lines.
The first step is exploring what facial cosmetic procedures can benefit your aesthetic goals and are best for you.
Blepharoplasty
Droopy eyelids can be a major reason you may be considering eyelid surgery. Blepharoplasty is a procedure that removes and tightens excess eyelid skin, which can improve the overall appearance of your eyelids.
In some cases, blepharoplasty can also improve vision by adjusting droopy eyelids to provide a less obstructed field of view.
When your eyelid skin stretches, the muscles weaken, and fat pockets become more prominent as they bulge. Droopy eyelids can be a hereditary condition, and cosmetically, this condition can result in a tired or older appearance.
A blepharoplasty may be needed as a medical procedure to improve vision and a cosmetic preference.
Ptosis Repair
Ptosis is the medical term for drooping of the upper eyelid. It is a condition that can affect one or both eyes. Droopy eyelids can occur when the edge of the upper eyelid falls from its natural position. When the edge of the eyelids falls, it can cover part of your pupil and interfere with your vision.
Ptosis repair surgery should not be confused with an upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Ptosis repair surgery focuses on raising the position of the upper eyelid margin by tightening the muscles that normally elevate it.
It is not uncommon for someone to develop a droopy upper eyelid following cataract or other eye surgeries, and surgical correction involves repairing the stretched tendon.
BOTOX Cosmetic
BOTOX Cosmetic is used for the temporary smoothing of frown lines that appear between your eyebrows that can make you look tired, unhappy, or angry. BOTOX Cosmetic is FDA-approved for use in this area but is often used off-label for horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet, and smoker’s lines around the lips.
BOTOX Cosmetic should not be confused with injectable fillers, as dermal fillers work differently to plump up tissue, so lines and wrinkles diminish or disappear.
BOTOX is generally used in the upper portion of the face, and fillers are mostly for other areas. Our team at Albemarle Eye Center can help you discover if BOTOX is ideal for you.
Dermal Fillers
Juvederm XC and Restylane are 2 filler options that work differently to combat wrinkles and early signs of aging.
Juvederm XC is a smooth gel filler that is used to instantly smooth away wrinkles around your mouth and nose in a single treatment. You can get smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year with Juvederm XC.
Restylane is a non-surgical method to smooth out facial lines and wrinkles, add volume to your lips, and fill in scars. Restylane offers immediate and dramatic results to those unhappy with the early signs of aging.
